Hello World!

Home Page

I am a student at the City College of New York and below I will show some works or essays that I did in my English class two of them are short, the first one I did was Chubby Girl, it was about a girl who suffered bullying since she was little because of how her body was and how comments affected her. The second one, Debanhi, there spoke about a case that had an impact on Mexico, well, several countries were moved by this case, since it tells us how a girl went out to a party that she went out with her friends would be her loss and the last but not least important Should animals be kept in Zoos? there I talk about the fact that I do not agree that animals remain in zoos.

This I No Longer Believe

                                      CHUBBY GIRL

IF LIFE GIVES YOU ROLLS SHOW THEM OFF

An innocent and sensitive 9-year-old girl named Lee, that girl began to experience bad and negative comments towards her body, towards her weight, the girl did not understand what older people and their cousins were referring to the fact “nobody is going to love you for how you are”. Lee was just a sweet and innocent girl, enjoying her childhood and enjoying those sweets that she craved as much as any other child. During her childhood she never received bullying in classes, all that negativity came from close people. Lee grew up, she was already a teenager and like every normal body, stretch marks came out, I always had them but I was not informed of what they were, she lived calmly and showed them until one day one of her cousins came to see all those curves that I had it on my back and Lisa said, your body is already damaged, full of all that, on the legs, breasts and back, to be brief, that was the last straw that spilled the camel’s back, the insecurities began, I began to put on more stretch marks, my We had dinner, everywhere I saw them I tried to cover them, look for videos on YouTube on how to remove them, buy creams. The years went by, I was a teenager who gained weight and I received comments that I didn’t wear tight clothes and I did that. I stopped doing everything they told me, that if that haircut didn’t work for me because I was plump, I tried to disguise my haircut. hair, that the clothes don’t look pretty on me because I’m plump and I gave them away, I was already insecure of myself and look in the mirror and always repeat ‘No one is going to love you for being fat’ I never defended myself I was very naive and everything I kept it as a secret from me.

Today I can say that I am still struggling with my self-esteem. I have ups and downs, but I know that one day I will come to love myself so much that nothing can lower me from that high step that I am creating for myself. They always made me believe and see that if you are full it is to be sick, that I should not wear the clothes that I like but the clothes that go with my body, that if I am full I should wear the clothes that cover the rolls to hide a little my fullness, that the woman with a waist and skinny looks better than a little girl with rolls, than never a. The man was going to love me for being full. I grew up with that idea, the idea of always repeating to myself every time I ate, correct yourself, you must be thin, exercise, you must become obsessed with food and exercise, see daily routines and daily diets, what they did was increase my anxiety to continue eating more.

Then I grew and understood little by little seeing reality, seeing people on tik tok showing realities that influencers hide, influencers that I said I wanted to be like them with perfect skin, an unbeatable waist. but the reality of things is that people will never be comfortable with what you are and how you are, they will always give their opinion looking for a way to lower it, trying to tell you “constructive criticism” and at the end of the day what you should do is work on yourself, Dress as you like, wear the clothes you want, your body does not matter, if you are plump and feel comfortable wearing short or low-cut clothes, wear it, and you will learn it when you start loving yourself, love yourself and when you manage to do it, believe me, nothing they will say to you It will affect the fact that clothes should be made to show off and not meet beauty standards, that being plump does not make you less beautiful and less loved, that the curves that so many wanted to have are there when you look in the mirror and smile because you love how your clothes fit.

What did you wear today, what are stretch marks? Are those waves you look for on the beach on a summer day to cool off and show off that bikini that you wanted to wear so much but that beauty standards did not allow you, that on social networks you Videos appear saying “how to have the perfect flat waist and abdomen to show off that body in a bikini in the summer” how rotten are people and more women on television, gentlemen that wearing a bikini does not need the perfect body, but the YOUR body, that one with rolls, that one without or with boobs, with or without booty always seek to change to feel better about yourself and not to please others and meet standards, that today in the middle of the century there are men who love how you feel and what you do, who prefer and like their chubby women, each one she has her tastes, Lee was just a girl deceived by people without empathy, instilling standards that today have changed in some specific people or men, and last but not least Lee already sees everything clearly and stopped believing that being thin It makes you look prettier, old beliefs or those that continue to exist today, such an absurd way of thinking but that one day they will realize them. Do not give opinions to a body that is not yours.

BREAK STANDARDS AND LOVE YOURSELF MORE.

                    Rhetorical Analysis Mini-Paper

                               Debanhi Escobar

On Friday, April 8, 2022, the misfortune happened. Debanhi Escobar, 18 years old, one night she and her friends decided to go to a party to have a good time but what was not expected is that those friends she went with were the ones who led them to perdition, for an unknown reason it is said that some time later at the party they argued and left Debani alone and after the friends left they contacted a “trustworthy” taxi to take Debanhi home. His name was Jesus. It is suggested that the taxi driver wanted to touch her and for that reason decided to get out. In the middle of the night alone, as she proceeded to get out of the car, the taxi driver took a photo of her as “proof” that she got out of the car. and sent it to Debanhi’s friends letting them know that she got out of the car.

The last known photo of the 18-year-old posted on her Instagram account

Justin Vallejo,New York, Monday 25 April 2022 19:48

This was the last photo of her alive, taken by the taxi driver, which is said to be exactly unknown when it was taken and was received by her “Friends” if they can be called that. She went to ask for help at a factory where she entered but never came out. The police searched but did not find the Mexican people and other countries, moved by the situation, tired of women disappearing day after day and never appearing, and if they do, they are lifeless, dead. . All tiktok and other networks were invaded with videos of the situation, organizing marches, letting the world know what was happening.

These photos are from the march organized for the disappearance of Debanhi and of all those who have disappeared and not found, the posters say “We are missing Debani, we are missing many” They are letting us know the number of thousands of women disappeared by the that they all ask for justice and shout and feel it because they are no longer there, “Government of zero impunity we are missing 24 thousand women, we demand justice” They demand the government, they send the government a message that there are already many who should and should take action in the issue to stop these misfortunes. , “Debanhi did not die, they murdered her” Many mention that she died but do not mention how realistically she was murdered, that is the correct word, they ask for justice, not consolation. “On the way home I want to be free, not brave” We want to walk late at night without fear and without thinking about how we will act or how loudly we will shout so that they will listen to us and help us. All these posters leave us a great message, it reflects the union of the people tired of all this happening and the government doing absolutely nothing.

We can see how they use a t-shirt to leave a message, like a question, where are they? Where are those disappeared who have not been found, they are dead, it may be logical for others, but the family wants answers, there are families waiting for a police call that their daughter has appeared alive to embrace her and help her or dead to bury her and have an idea of who are no longer there and have a place to visit. It is sad to see cases like this, where I connect with it I am a woman, I have, my mother, I have a sister, aunts, niece, friends that I worry about if something happens to them I know that I will not rest until they appear, I will scream, I will rise up the voice, if I have to turn everything upside down I do it, but we are already tired of being frowned upon sexually, they harass us with questions, of feeling uncomfortable with what we wear because of how lustful eyes will look at us.

Debanhi was one of the many found dead, one of those who used to scream for justice and it was because of her that one day they shouted and raised their voices for her to appear. Debanhi was abandoned by her friends who used to accompany them and arrive all together, abandoned and groped by a taxi driver who is supposed to take us home safely and quickly as possible and they are the first to do the opposite, they disappear from us, they make us feel insecure and afraid. That’s why we distrust calling a taxi, we believe that everyone is the same, now we share a location with people, we pretend to be on a call with someone just so they don’t do anything to us.As a result, Debanhi’s body was found severely decomposed in a motel water tank, the autopsy says that she died of asphyxiation.

It will be that one day we’ll wake up with the news that the world has changed, that those who do this type of evil have reconsidered. That women finally stop fighting for rights and respect when we really deserve it without having to ask or demand it or everything will remain as a dream or wish and we will continue at this rate, where we live in fear, where we do not trust because they do not give us confidence, that we are turning so loudly, that if they take me away they will find me dead or alive like the many that have been taken away and appear like this.

We do not want to live in fear, sadness, despair, disclosed, mistreated, abused, raped. We all DESERVE and WANT to be free, Respected, feel comfortable, safe, loved. WE DO NOT WANT to be the next to appear on television or on posters asking for justice, we want to be the one for which he makes a celebration march that everything ended or if it was a nightmare.

Inquiry Paper

Should animals be kept in Zoos?

Should animals be kept in zoos? The important thing is animal welfare, and if people like animals, they should care about what’s best for them. Animals have long been captivated for display in the human world, STEVENS, E. McALISTER said “The animals have been kept in captivity since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Throughout the centuries, people have captured and kept groups of wild animals for numerous reasons, ranging from the display of wealth to education and conservation”. Animals also need to be free just like humans, animals need to be in their natural environment. The zoo is a prison for animals, zoos have different types of animal species that are locked in cages.

Zoos have animals to entertain the visiting public, because people like to see animals that they have never seen before. People like the pranks that animals do but all those animals have trained them to do all that, which generates money for them because people comment that in such a zoo they saw how playful the animals are, the people who hear these types of comments are motivated to want to go and see with their own eyes what they previously heard. Personally, I would say that nowadays there are few people in our society who think about the welfare of animals, now they focus more on being entertained by animals. A Zoo is a place where the animals are locked up.National Geographic that ” Zoos contain wide varieties of animals that are native to all parts of the Earth.”(2022). According to Morgan Stanley a Zoo is a place where the animals live in captivity and where humans can observe them for entertainment. It is a place where animals are locked up which have a great variety of different animals which cause animals to become stressed and die.they feel stressed perhaps because their instinct asks to kill an animal, because wild animals hunt to eat, being wild is their nature and being surrounded by them makes them want to go out and eat, because the food they receive is not it is enough to satisfy him as they want to train him to be “a calm animal” freeing him from that wild desire. Also this information teaches us what a zoo is for and how it is managed by humans and the varieties of animals they have there.

When an animal that is used to its nature, which is to hunt, feed on other animals, and is taken to a limited place, which is the zoo, it is very, very difficult for it to get used to that lifestyle because it can no longer do what it used to do. to do when in their habitat (Stark & Orr, 1940) Pinnipeds were once notorious for anorexia in captivity: “Very often, a sea lion, after capture, does not eat for sixty days. Being used to catching its own live fish, the animal is extremely slow to adapt to a change in the environment”. Zoos have different types of animals. The Association of Zoos Aquariums says that “How many different species of animals are in an average zoo? There are approximately 8,700 species of animals across all AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums and AZA Certified Related facilities.” (Marcy & Karly, 2021). This quote supports the idea that over eight thousand speciesanimals are far from their natural habitat, this also means that there are many types of animals, which attract people’s attention.

There are a lot of zoos in the world. The website Born Free tells us that “With over 10,000 zoos estimated worldwide, holding millions of wild animals in captivity, the scale of the zoo industry is huge.” (Zoos and Aquaria: Global, 2022). This quote identifies how many zoos there are in the world, and they are 10,000 zoos which have millions of different types of animals that they capture in their natural habitat. Also gives us a lot to say since we can realize the millions of animals that are locked up in zoos. This quote also shows that many different peoples and cultures enjoy viewing animals for entertainment and make money from animals in captivity. There are many ways that the zoos get animals. According to (Mistreatment of Wild Animals in Captivity” Ballard Brief. April 2021). “Research does demonstrate that large, wide-ranging, highly intelligent, socially complex, and self-aware animals are most likely to suffer a decrease in well-being from captivity. This includes cetaceans, primates, elephants, bears, and big cats. These animals are more likely to suffer because they have more complex needs that cannot be met, or even approximated, in captive establishments. Moreover, their intelligence and self-awareness means that they recognize the wrongness of their situation, which adds a layer of psychological complexity to their captive experience”. Animals that present stronger emotions than others, without being able to recognize and feel that the place where they are, is not where they belong, feel as if they were imprisoned, without freedom, which adds a layer of psychological complexity to their experience in captivity. animal that has been captivated where it was accustomed to hunting or just starting and they move it to a place where it will remain locked up, its instinct to kill or hunt grows and when it feels that I could not do it, it becomes complex, we will say sad because where he was he was free he was where he belonged, instead he is locked up just walking in a cage, unable to run, in the same way even if the animal was born in the zoo and has never experienced hunting, its wild instinct will be there, it will always be there and maybe in at some point react to such a desire or instinct.

Keeping animals captive and even more so if they are wild is the worst mistake they can make, because wild animals, no matter how well trained they are, will always be wild, it is their nature and keeping it that way would increase their savagery, (Middletown), 2008, Vol .107 (14), p.7 say that “Critics say that zoos are like prisons and that zoos drive many animals insane by confining them. If the animals don’t die of boredom, they break up and go back to their wild nature “. In other words, keeping an animal in captivity is horrible because they feel limited, forced to do things they don’t want and it doesn’t go with them, especially if they are wild.

It is time that we transform what is wrong into something extraordinary, a well-being for all, even show infants, well, children that the zoo is not a place where they have an animal locked up, just for you to go and laugh for things that were trained, rather it is to make the change and that it is true that the zoo is a winery where it protects or saves animals that can no longer be in their nature. This is what Safina, Carl says, Zoos of the next few decades must become the first stage for young people to make a lifelong commitment to caring for animals. They could carry out that mission in their communities, in schools, in the wilds, as well as within their gates. Without a strong public constitution, wild animals will not withstand continued human proliferation. Zoos and aquariums must innovate to become a crucial force for the continued existence of wild nature on Earth. The zoos of the future must become inspiring places of respect, rescue, improvement, conservation and public participation.

When I was in high school I read a book that was practically about animal abuse by humans, it wasn’t in a zoo, it was on a farm, animals work for human benefit, they produce for humans and well, it’s practically similar to what animals do. do. The zoo trains the animals to make the public laugh and entertain, so this allows the owner to earn money and profit from the animals. I will show two quotes that are similar to the message that I want to leave you on this topic. According to (Russell Tayler) The Animal Farm chapter 1,Only get rid of Man, and the produce of our labor would be our own. Almost overnight we could become rich and free. What then must we do? Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race! That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that sooner or later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder of your lives!”. Just imagine that what I was talking about was a story, for a book where the zoo animals from one moment to the next plan to rebel to be free and return to nature, to a reciprocated place where they should not go out because they are tired of being trained to entertain and make the public laugh, but they don’t feel that way, they are not happy, but just imagining it that way where there is no murder or anything, just that they escape to be free, but in real life we know what It will happen if an animal from the zoo escapes from its cell it can kill people without a doubt, it may be because it is its nature to be wild and its instinct asks it to kill people, because no matter how well trained the animal is of a wild breed, no matter how much I know and there grown surrounded, and trained by people his instinct will be stronger than that.

If the animal lives in its habitat, it is happy, free, runs, plays, hunts other animals to eat because that is how nature works and it will always be like that, there is no reason to change something that works at that rate, everyone eats to survive, but they cannot be captured with the fact that they are fine, so I wonder if they want the animals to be safe and well, what is the need to train them and put them on display to the public when there is no need and there is no reason, and the reason is because the human at the expense of everything seeks the way to be benefited, they do not have to put an animal to be in a way just to accommodate humans, nobody trains a person to do good to an animal but the animal if they have to train and manage it. This is another quote from Animal Farm chapter 1 ( Russell Tayler) that connects with what I’m saying, “And remember, comrades, your resolution must never falter. No argument must lead you astray. Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of one is the prosperity of the others. It is all lies. Man serves the interests of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades”. Most of the time, humans only do things because in some way or another they can be favored, they may do it for pleasure or because they like it, but deep down they know that they will be favored in some way. Animals are like us people, We don’t like being locked up, we don’t stress, we get depressed, we want to go out, do what we like, if they looked at it that way, if they thought about it. Everything today would be empathy, you have to let them be, and let them all be free.

Conclusion

In conclusion, animals should not be kept in zoos because they don’t have no control over their environment, they don’t belong in those places. Animals can get stressed living in captivity. When considering this question, people may be worried that they will lose their jobs if they take the animals out of the zoo since those people earn money by working in the zoo, maybe this could affect them. Those people who are not convinced about closing zoos should consider that there are many ways to earn money, you can work in common jobs and there are many types of jobs from which you receive a good amount of money. People can learn more about the treatment of animals in zoos on the internet. There are many articles that report on this subject, it is very important to be informed about it since we can see the opinions from the point of view that people can interpret. Hopefully in the next 20 years they will take the animals out of the zoo so that everyone can be free. People should know that animals feel good in their natural habitat that even if they don’t receive medical attention or education, it doesn’t matter, because that’s their nature, they learn to survive, then they get used to it because after all, they belong to nature, they are not forced to live with humans.
